County squads do well at Stanford


The Bear River and Nevada Union cross country teams headed to the Stanford Invitational Saturday and found out just where they stand against more than 400 other runners.

In one of the largest cross country meets in the country, both schools claimed several top-50 finishes.

In the boys 5K race, which consisted of more than 230 competitors, the Miners had two runners place in the top 50. Garrett Migliozzi led NU with a 14th-place finish at 16 minutes, 34 seconds. Migliozzi worked his way up from 50th at the start of the race. David French, starting in 48th, finished 29th with a time of 16:50. For Bear River, Alex Coffman grabbed a top-50 finish with a time of 17:03. The overall winner in the boys race was Davis’ Jack Scanton with a time of 15:51.

In the girls race, which featured more than 180 competitors, Nevada Union’s freshman standout Nora Pizella finished 18th with a time of 19:38. NU’s Chloe Reindl also turned in a strong performance, finishing 51st with a time of 20:32.

On the Lady Bruins’ side, Mary Nattrass, Kimmy Pugel, Cecilia Malik, Sierra Mitchell, Hallie Pettitt, Jessica Meylor and Rachael Olsen raced to a respectable team finish by placing 14th in the field of 26.

Nattrass once again proved why she is one of the top Pioneer Valley League female runners with a time of 20:27 and 35th-place finish.
