Six from Gold Country advance to regionals

The Gold Country Gymnastics optional boys team traveled to Berkeley for the 2012 Boys State Championships. All four competitors qualified for regionals.

Nathan Hunt took eighth overall at Level 8 with a score of 71.6. He also took first place on rings with a 12.0 and tied for third on floor with a 13.4.

Josh Cooley finished in second on floor with a 13.45 and fifth on rings with an 11.75. His overall score was 65.1.

Competing at Level 9, Jeremy Hunt finished with an all-around score of 69.8. He earned a 12.65 on floor and a 12.4 on vault.

In the Level 10 competition, Steven Whittlesey scored 13.55 on vault, 11.3 on rings and an all-around total of 33.7.

From the Gold Country girls optional team, Katerine Magill in Level 10 and Mekaela Lujan in Level 9 both qualified for the 2012 Nor-Cal State Championships.

Magill suffered an injury two days beforehand but went on to compete in every event. Lujan had an all-around score of 34.75, good enough to qualify for regionals.
