Chad Bartlomé, a 2001 Nevada Union graduate, is starting to make his way as a member of Sacramento’s professional soccer team, helping the Republic nearly upset the San Jose Earthquake June 11.
In the 42nd minute Bartlomé, playing forward, crossed the ball into the box where teammate Justin Braun flicked the ball in for the goal. It was Bartlomé’s first assist of the year.
The Earthquake would rally scoring the next two goals to take the lead and eventually the game.
In the 78th minute Bartlomé was ejected after receiving his second yellow card of the match.
So far this season Bartlomé has played in three games, scoring one goal and logging one assist.
Courtney Ceo (Bear River ‘10; USSSA Pride) has signed a two-year contract with the USSSA Florida Pride.
The former Oregon All-American was the sixth overall selection in the 2014 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) draft.
While at Oregon, Ceo led the nation in hitting with a .493 batting average and helped the Ducks to their first ever Pac-12 title and first ever appearance in the Women’s College World Series.
“I’m just very blessed and extremely excited to sign with the Pride,” Ceo said on the Pride’s official website. “It’s a wonderful opportunity not only to play on the team, but to have the ability to play with the other athletes as well. I’m very anxious to be heading out to Florida.”
In her four-year career at Oregon, Ceo posted a .415 career batting average with 15 homeruns, 85 RBIs, and 65 stolen bases.
She was named to the All-Pacific Region team four times, was a two-time First Team All-Pac 12 infielder, and a member of the All-Pac 12 Freshman team in 2011.
Ceo is Oregon’s all-time hits leader and her .493 season average is the best in program history.
Josh Roenicke (Nevada Union ‘01; Syracuse Chiefs) earned his second win of the season Sunday, pitching the Chiefs past the Norfolk Tides, 4-0.
Roenicke pitched six strong innings in the win, scattering seven hits while striking out three.
For the season, Roenicke is 2-3 overall with a 4.13 ERA. After spending the early part of the season in the bullpen, He has made four straight starts.
