Alumni notebook: Zeisler named to All-District Team

Dustin Zeisler, a 2012 Nevada Union graduate and sophomore shortstop on the Holy Names University baseball team, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District® Team for NCAA Division II District 8 on Thursday.

With a 3.63 GPA, Zeisler excelled in the classroom and on the field. He hit .327 during the 2014 season with 14 RBIs and nine extra-base hits. He also led the Hawks this past season with nine stolen bases.

As a result of his selection to the Capital One Academic All-District® team, Zeisler now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® ballot, which will be voted for later this month.

Zach Welz (Bear River ‘11; Texas Southern University) and the Tigers (23-27) won the third contest of a three-game set after dropping the first two against the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Welz, playing centerfield, went 4-for-12 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the series.

Chris Porter (Nevada Union ’11; Cal State East Bay) and the Pioneers (30-18) took three games in a four-game set with San Francisco State last week to close the regular season.

Porter played catcher in two of the four games, going 0-for-4 from the plate, but did tally an RBI.

Cole Huntley (Bear River ‘11; Saddleback College) appeared in all three of the Gauchos playoff games over the weekend, pitching in relief.

Huntley allowed just one earned run in three-plus innings of relief work, but Saddleback was ousted from the playoffs after dropping two of three to L.A. Mission.

Josh Roenicke (Nevada Union ‘01 — Syracuse Chiefs-Triple-A) pitched one inning in relief for the Chiefs against Toledo last week.

Roenicke threw one inning, allowed three hits, and one earned run.


Courtney Ceo (Bear River ‘10; University of Oregon) and the No. 1 ranked Ducks (47-6-1) faced off with the No. 3 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils last weekend, going 1-1-1 in the three game series.

Ceo, playing third base, went 4-for-11 with two runs scored and two RBIs against the Sun Devils.

The Ducks are 18-2-1 in Pac-12 play with three games left in their league season, and can clinch with a pair of wins in their final series against Arizona.

Katie Mathis (Bear River ‘10; San Diego State) and the Aztecs (36-17) battled with San Jose State last week, beating the Spartans twice in a three-game series.

Mathis, playing second base, went 4-for-11 with a stolen base and a walk in the series.

Kendal Butterfield (Nevada Union ‘10; Colorado State) and the Rams (31-15) dropped the first two games of a three-game series with Fresno State last week, but rallied to take the third.

Butterfield, playing left field, went 2-for-8 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI in the series.

Stephanie Ceo (Bear River ‘12; University of Texas) and the Longhorns (32-20) took two games out of three against Kansas over the weekend.

Ceo, playing second base, went 3-for-7 in the series with two runs scored and a stolen base.


Jace Tiller (Nevada Union ‘12; Folsom Lake Community College) and the Falcons won the final Big 8 Tournament of the season at Eagle Vines Golf Club in Napa, and with it the Big 8 League Championship.

Tiller led his team with a team-low 73.
