The Bear River baseball team squandered a three-run lead Wednesday and lost to tournament host Selma, 6-5.
The Bruins (10-9, 6-5 Pioneer Valley League) held a 5-2 lead in the sixth but couldn’t close it out, falling to the Bears (14-8) in their final game at the tourney.
Michael Scudero started the contest from the mound and went 5 1/3 innings before handing the ball over to Tony Bianchi. Scudero would take a no-decision and Bianchi ended up with the loss.
“We saw a lot and we learned a lot,” Bear River head coach Dave Brown said of the tournament. “We have it in us to be a decent team. Now, it’s all about the guys believing it.”
Brown praised the play of David Chorjel, Brandon Donley, Matt Lopez and Bear Belding in the tournament, stating that they would be on the all-tourney team if the tourney had an all-tourney team.
Donley tallied five RBIs and had a home run in the tournament, Lopez had seven RBIs throughout, Chorjel made several diving catches in the outfield and Bear Belding did it with his bat and glove.
The Bruins finish the Selma Easter Tournament with a 2-2 record, having beaten Firebaugh and Chowchilla and losing to Kerman and Selma.
Bear River gets back to PVL play Wednesday when they head to Colfax to face the league-leading Falcons.
