Prep roundup: Nevada Union softball falls just short to Del Oro

Del Oro edged the Lady Miners Wednesday in a tightly contested Sierra Foothill League softball game at Nevada Union.

The Lady Golden Eagles grabbed an early 4-0 lead, but NU rallied to tie it in the bottom of the third.

Del Oro went back on top with two in the fifth, but NU answered with two of their own in its half of the fifth.

Del Oro tallied one in the sixth and that would prove to be the game winner, as NU was held scoreless down the stretch.

Alexis Deatrick started in the circle for NU, and went 3 innings, giving up eight hits, four runs and striking out two.

Lacey Peternell finished the last four innings giving up two hits and three runs. 

Offensively Savannah Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Picking up hits in the game was Sarah Lundmark with a double, and Peternell, Lacey Burr, Emma Zoellin all added singles.

The Lady Miners are 5-4-2 overall and 0-2 in the SFL . They take the diamond again Friday against Roseville.

JV: Nevada Union 15, Del Oro 5

The Lady Miners trailed 5-0 headed to the bottom of the fifth inning, and that’s when the dam broke.

NU scored nine runs in the fifth and another six in the sixth to beat Del Oro via the 10-run mercy rule.

Katelin Crowder highlighted the nine-run fifth inning with a grand slam. Crowder finished the day 2-for-4 with the home run and a double.

From the plate every Lady Miner hit. Leading the way was Ashtyn Willis with four hits, Aycee Willis had two hits including a triple, Alex Pussich tallied two hits, including a double, Kaila Lamos had two hits and scored three runs, Gracie Ramos went 2-for-4, and Quianna Arnberg added two hits in the win.

Riley Newman notched the win, pitching the final three innings of the game and allowing just one run. Newman also had two, including a triple and scored a pair of runs.


Bear River 259, Foothill 281

Competing on their home course at Lake of the Pines Country Club, the Bruins beat Foothill by 22 strokes Tuesday.

Bear River was led by the day’s medalist Drew Cramer. Ian Armstrong added a 47 on the par-35 course, Chris Raigoza finished with a 55, James Lavelle also tallied a 55 and Ryan Wagner finished with a 59 to round things out.

Bear River hits the links again today against Placer.

JV: Vista Del Lago 228, Nevada Union 247

The Miners dropped a contest on their home Alta Sierra Country Club course Wednesday, losing to Vista Del Lago by 19 strokes.

Nevada Union’s low score of 46 was shot by sophomore Jackson Bryan.
