The Bear River baseball team traveled to Monterey Trail High School Tuesday and put on a hitting display, collecting 15 hits on its way to a 17-6 victory.
The Bruins scored five in the first, four in the third, one in the fifth and sixth and closed with six runs in the seventh.
Leading the way was Michael Scudero with two hits, including a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Dayton Anderson added three hits, scored a run and knocked in a run. Bear Belding scored three times, stole three bases and knocked in a run.
David Chorjel tallied three hits and scored two runs. Brandon Donely tallied a pair of RBIs, Matt Lopez added two hits and an RBI, Tyler Toft chipped in a hit and a run, and Kyle Krogman had a hit, a run scored and RBI.
Belding (1-0) notched the win from the mound, pitching four innings, allowing three hits, four runs, one earned and striking out four.
Nevada Union 8, Woodland 2
The Miners improved to 3-0 in non-league play, beating Woodland by six in a night game Tuesday.
Beau Des Pois tallied the win on the mound, throwing 4 2/3 innings, yielding three hits, two runs, one earned, while striking out seven.
Garrett O’Callaghan finished Woodland off, throwing 2 1/3 innings of no-hit ball.
From the plate, Noah Arriaga tallied two hits and two RBIs. Joey Souza went 2-for-4 with a double, and Brock Grininger also had a double.
The Miners are back at it at 6 p.m. Friday against Yuba City.
JV: Nevada Union 6, Woodland 4 (8 innings)
The Miners rallied from four down in the first inning to top Woodland in extra innings Tuesday.
NU’s Brad Hedger scored on an error in the second inning to get the scoring going for the Miners.
In the 3rd inning NU’s Weston Gaddis singled and stole second. James Schnitzius hit a line drive that the Woodland center fielder made a diving catch, but Gaddis was able to score on the sac fly making the score 2-2.
In the fourth Hedger singled and scored on an error. In the sixth inning the Miners still needed one more to complete the come back.
NU’s Cain Lackey got on via another Woodland error, Brendan McCarthy doubled down the right field line moving Lackey to third.
Another Woodland error scored Lackey to tie the score at four. Lackey, NU’s starting pitcher, settled down after the first inning and pitched a full seven innings, striking out four.
With one out in the eighth Hedger walked and Cody Voss pinch ran for him. Voss promptly stole second base. After a strike out, pinch hitter Tim O’Sullivan walked. Voss and O’Sullivan completed a double steal on a ball in the dirt to move into scoring position. Gaddis hit a ground ball to second base where Woodland made another error which allowed both NU runs to score.
In the bottom of the eighth NU’s Austin Butler blew threw three Woodland hitters striking out the last hitter to end the game. This was the Miners first game of the season after having four straight games postponed due to rain.
