Jimmy Amaral has been coaching Nevada County youth for the past 17 years, and this past weekend he was recognized for his contributions to the Nevada County Youth Basketball League.
Amaral was named the Christian Anthony Craig Coach of the Year Saturday at Union Hill, after one of the two games he was coaching that day.
“Jimmy has been with us for five years,” Lennie Mitchell said. “His dedication is amazing. I see him sit on the floor with his team and they hang on every word he says.”
Amaral said he first got into coaching Little League when he was 18 years old, doing it as his senior project. He has also coached baseball at the high school and American Legion levels, but got into coaching basketball five years ago.
“I started coaching basketball when my son was in first grade, and I’ve had the same group for five years and they are amazing, it’s been amazing.”
Amaral went on to say that he did not expect the award but felt honored to receive it.
