Dusty Zeisler, a 2012 Nevada Union graduate, and the Holy Names University baseball team went 4-1 last week to improve their overall record to 7-4.
After dropping a game to San Francisco State, the Red Hawks took four straight from Oregon Tech.
Zeisler was a sizzling 10-for-18 during the five-game stretch with three RBIs, five runs scored, four doubles and a triple.
The sophomore shortstop is batting .432 in the young season with five RBIs, eight runs scored and five stolen bases.
Chris Porter (Nevada Union 2011; Cal State East Bay) and the Pioneers split six games last week, taking one game from Menlo and two from Cal State San Bernardino in California Collegiate Athletic Association league play.
Porter saw action at catcher in three games going 1-for-11 with a run scored and a double.
James Harris (Bear River 2012; Solano Community College) lost his only start for Solano last week, going 2.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits.
Harris is now 0-2 on the season and Solano is 1-6 overall.
Andrew Harris (Bear River 2013; Solano Community College) saw action in one game for Solano last week, going 0-for-2 but scoring two runs along the way.
Brianna Nicholson (Nevada Union 2010; Cal State Stanislaus) and the Warriors went 4-2 overall last week, beating Cal State East Bay twice and splitting four games with Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Nicholson, playing first base, shined throughout the week, going 9-of-19 with two home runs, two doubles, four RBIs and six runs scored.
Courtney Ceo (Bear River 2010; Oregon) and the Ducks continue to roll, extending their winning streak to nine straight after a 5-0 week. The Ducks buzzed through the Easton Classic, beating Toledo, UNLV, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Ohio State and Cal State Northridge. Ceo, playing third base, was impressive going 8-of-13 with two home runs, nine RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base.
Stephanie Ceo (Bear River 2012; Texas) and the Longhorns struggled at the Texas Classic, winning just two of their five contests. Over the five-game stretch Ceo, playing second base, went 3-for-13 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Katie Mathis (Bear River 2010; San Diego State) and the Aztecs went 4-1 at the Campbell/Cartier Classic, beating Cal State Fullerton, South Dakota, No. 23 California and Saint Mary’s. The Aztecs’ only loss was to Texas State. Mathis, playing second base, went 4-for-14 with two runs scored during the tournament.
Kendal Butterfield (Nevada Union 2010; Colorado State) and the Rams went 3-2 at the UTSA Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Butterfield saw limited action in all of the games, finishing the week 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
Maddie Phelps (Bear River 2012; Sierra College) notched her second win of the season last week, leading Sierra College past Monterey Peninsula College. In the win, Phelps went seven innings, allowed just five hits, one run and struck out three. Phelps also got a no-decision after going 5 2/3 innings and giving up two earned runs innings against San Mateo.
Kendall Pawlowski (Nevada Union 2013; UC Santa Cruz) competed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swim and Dive Championships, helping his team to a second place finish overall. Pawlowski took fourth in the 200-yard butterfly, fifth in the 200 freestyle, fifth in the 500 freestyle and was a member of the 800 freestyle relay that took third.
Patrick Herbert (Nevada Union 2013; UC Santa Cruz) also competed in the SCAC swim and dive championships, placing fifth in the 100 backstroke, ninth in the 200 individual medley, ninth in the 200 backstroke and was a member of several top-10 relay teams.
Dana Neel (Nevada Union 2010; UC Santa Cruz) also made waves at the SCAC Swim and Dive Championships placing in the top 10 as a member of three different relay teams. Neel also took 13th in the 200 free.
Marc Hopkinson (Nevada Union 2009; Tabor College) saw action in a pair of games last week, helping Tabor College split their contests.
Hopkinson scored four points in Tabor’s win over Ottawa (Kansas), and notched 11 points in Tabor’s loss to Southwestern (Kansas).
Kara Dodd (Bear River 2011; UC Santa Cruz) and the Slug water polo team went 1-2 last week, beating UC Davis, and losing to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and LA United.
Dodd played strong defense in the losses, and netted a goal in the win over UC Davis.
