Reno man, 41, killed in Jet Ski accident at Boca Reservoir

TRUCKEE, Calif. – A 41-year-old Reno man was killed in a Jet Ski accident Sunday afternoon at Boca Reservoir, an official has confirmed.
Brett Jaffe died after the Jet Ski he was operating collided with another Jet Ski ridden by Jacob Racki, 32, of Nevada City, Calif., at about 3:30 p.m., said Dave DeVogelaere, a deputy with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, in a Tuesday phone interview.
By the time NCSO officials arrived on scene, DeVogelaere said Jaffe’s body had been removed from the water by emergency crews with Tahoe National Forest, who were unable to resuscitate him. California Highway Patrol also responded to the incident.
It’s unclear the extent of Racki’s injuries, DeVogelaere said, as that information was not readily available Tuesday.
The men were racing a “ski slalom course,” DeVogelaere said, and their Jet Skis collided while passing by buoys on the water. While Jet Skiing and boating is allowed at Boca, setting up buoys for racing is illegal, DeVogelaere said.
While the incident still is under investigation by NCSO, DeVogelaere said alcohol and/or drugs do appear to be a factor in the collision.
Boca Reservoir is located northeast of Truckee, between the town and the Nevada/California state line, about 27 miles southwest of Reno.
