Waynette Trovato of Nevada City, Calif., passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, in Sierra Memorial Hospital, Grass Valley, Calif., after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was 65.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, with lunch to follow at the Masonic Lodge, 108 ½ North Pine St., Nevada City, Calif.
Waynette was born June 25, 1947, in Los Angeles to parents Wayne and Frances Steele. She grew up in the greater Los Angeles area in a law enforcement environment. She started working for the Los Angeles Police Department in its Communication Dispatch Center in 1966 at age 19 and worked there for more than 26 years before becoming a management analyst from 1992 through 1997 and retiring as a management analyst II for the Community Development Department.
When her husband, Lt. Trovato, decided to retire, she decided to retire also, having served 32 years with the city. They moved to Nevada City in 1996 where her husband became the chief of police in Nevada City. Waynette was an active supporter of the NCPD until Chief Trovato retired in February 2012. She was a member of Evangeline Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron with Lou as Worthy Patron in 2005. She was appointed Deputy Grand Matron in 2011. She also was involved in the Nevada County Newcomers Club and Red Hat Society and played cards with a local bunco group.
Waynette was very generous and loved to cook and entertain. She cooked and served dinners for many local civic organizations over the years. Many people fondly recall the annual Christmas tree cutting parties hosted by Waynette and Lou the first Saturday in December, where they gave away Christmas trees and provided food and entertainment for everyone who showed up. She was a warm, thoughtful and giving person who will be greatly missed by all whose hearts she has touched and inspired. She will continue to live forever in all our memories.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Louis Trovato; her daughter, Nicole Dudley-Rucker (Paul) of Southern California; her son, Michael Dudley of North Carolina; her mother, Frances Goddard; her two sisters, Vikki and Linda; and grandchildren Grayson, Aiden and Kerrigan Dudley; and Audrey and Peter Rucker.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests anyone wanting to honor her memory to consider donating to Scooter's Pals, P.O. Box 1687 Cedar Ridge, CA 95924, or on the website at http://www.Scooterspals.org. All money goes toward vet bills to make an animal adoptable and is tax deductible.
