Robert (Bob) Jamison Pelton passed away Nov. 27, 2012, at his home in Nevada City at the age of 73. He was born in Oakland Oct. 24, 1939. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Vivian Pelton, and his brother, Gary Pelton.
While enrolled at Utah State University, Bob married Nancy Lee Erickson. They had two children, Tammi and Robert (Bobby) Pelton.
Always one to be in the driver's seat, whether speeding across the Bonneville Salt Flats in a modified race car or forming an American Legion Baseball League in Orange County, Calif., Bob could be counted on to see things through to a successful completion. Bob joined the family business that his father founded. One of the first franchise-modeled businesses, Pelton Spudnuts Corporation, a unique potato flour doughnut, grew to more than 600 franchises. In 1965, he partnered with Jack Shepherd and became National Sales Manager for the iconic "Blue Ice," a packaged ice product that Shepherd had invented. Bob retired and moved to Nevada City in 1981 where he followed his passions in life that included his deep appreciation of nature, an eclectic variety of music and a loving respect for his close friends. He cherished the breathtaking sunsets and the moonlit, starry nights from his beloved Scotts Valley Road "Snow Mountain" home. This love of nature began in his teens when he spent summers tending sheep in a remote region of Utah.
Bob engaged his love of the arts and music by bringing his marketing and management skills to the KVMR89.5FM boardroom during a critical period of the fledgling radio station's development. He served as treasurer and was instrumental in the formation of the Nevada City Broadcast Group.
Bob was a familiar face at local concerts and community events and graciously held house concerts and birthday parties for his friends at his home. With spectacular views of the Buttes, it was a natural fit. When as a pioneer member of the Full Moon Society, he hosted monthly music and food gatherings.
Bob is survived by his two children, Tammi Cluck of Newport Beach, Calif., and Bobby Pelton of St. George, Utah; four grandchildren, Brittany, Braden and Sara Cluck of Newport Beach and Robby Pelton and great-granddaughter Destiny Pelton of St George. He is also survived by his brother, Scotty Pelton of Taylorsville, Utah, and his former wife, Nancy Hilton.
For all of us who knew him, he was as charmingly multi-faceted as he was memorable. He was a driving force in our lives and his presence will be deeply missed. Bob was an inspiration to all the lives he touched, and we would like to thank all of you who were a part of his life. You meant the world to him.
There will be a celebration of life at 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, at "Bob's old home" on 12757 Scotts Valley Road. Music provided by George Souza and friends. Since Bob loved "potlucks" … please bring your favorite dish … wine and beer provided.
