Robert "Bob" Edward Harris, born Feb. 3, 1940, was taken suddenly from this world Jan. 6, 2013, at the age of 72 years. A rosary service will take place Jan. 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial/mass service at 11 a.m. Both services are at St. Patrick's Church, 3109 Sacramento St., Placerville, Calif. All of Bob's friends and family are invited to come and celebrate the life of a truly giving, caring, loving and wonderful man.
Bob was a loving and devoted father to his three children, Andy, 48 (Grass Valley), Pam, 47 (South Pasadena), and Scott, 43 (who resides in St. Louis with wife Jenine), and an adoring grandfather to his five grandchildren, Andy and Michelle's children, Karly (20) and Gabe (18), and Pam and Phil's children, Cole(10), Quinn (8) and Danica (7). Bob retired in 1997 after 30 years of employment with the Forest Service, finishing his career as the supervisor of the Tahoe Basin. He was an avid baseball umpire of all levels from Little League to semi-professional, a great coach of his sons' teams, a member of the Sons in Retirement and the Knights of Columbus, a STAR volunteer and instructor with the El Dorado Sheriff's Department, and a board member, officer and instructor with the Tahoe-Baikal Institute for 20 years. Bob traveled frequently to Mongolia to teach environmental conservation and forest management to college students and hosted students from Mongolia who came to Lake Tahoe to study the same subjects.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tahoe-Baikal Institute, 1061 3rd St., South Lake Tahoe, Calif., or http://www.tahoebaikal.org in Bob's memory.
