July 12, 2014
Waynard "Wayne" Darrell Wagner of Grass Valley, Calif., passed away with family at his side early on the morning of July 9, 2014 from complications of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
A wake in Wayne's honor will be held at the Grass Valley Elk's lodge at a later date.
Wayne was born 80 years ago in Seymour, Mo., on Sep. 5, 1933 to Fred and Minnie Wagner. The family moved to California in the 1950's. Wayne graduated from Armijo High School in 1952. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. He left the service at the rank of Sgt. He married the love of his life, Inez Nicholson, on Sep. 8, 1957. They remained married until Inez's death in 2010. Waynard went to work for the city of Fairfield while still in High school as a meter reader. He left Fairfield after 22 years of service and moved his little family to Grass Valley in 1972 where he went to work for the Nevada Irrigation District (NID). He retired from NID March 14, 1994. His retirement dinner was attended by 114 friends and colleagues and a few state dignitaries. Wayne and Inez enjoyed traveling after retirement. They also enjoyed having their family around and playing with their grandchildren.
Waynard is survived by his sister, Lorene Hudson of Vacaville, Calif.; son, Darrell Wagner and his wife, Bea of Reno, Nev., and his daughter, Joni Smalley and her husband, Michael of Marysville, Calif. Wayne has three grandchildren, Christopher Tuck of Fairfield, Calif., Bryan Tuck of Houston, Texas and Jesse Allanson of Reno, Nev. He was blessed to have two great granddaughters and one great grandson.
Wayne was blessed to have many youngsters in his life that he considered family. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling and reading the morning paper with a good cup of coffee. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Wayne had been living at the Prestige care facility in Marysville for the last four years where the staff took exceptionally good care of him and he loved "his girls."
Waynard and Inez will be interned at a later date at the Fairfield Vacaville cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
