Obituary of Kenneth William White
March 16, 2017
After a long battle with cancer, Kenneth William White passed away peacefully the morning of March 10th, in his home in Penn Valley and with family by his side. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Ken was born on March 27th, 1943 in the town of Mahopac in upstate New York. In his younger years he enjoyed all types of vehicles. He had numerous unique cars, he raced motorcycles, he sailed the seas, and he flew all types of planes, hang gliders and sailplanes. He was a private pilot having had his first lesson at the age of 17. In the mid-80s he rebuilt a wrecked experimental plane and then flew it to Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1987. He also enjoyed building and flying all types of RC planes with his sons. Ken loved building things and working with wood. In 1979, with the help of his father-in-law, he built the family's home in Penn Valley. There was always a dog or two around the house and over the years the family kept bees, chickens, sheep, cows and goats! Printing was Ken's lifelong trade. From an early age he worked for many newspapers, doing everything from setting lead type to running the presses. In 1976 he ventured out and started his own printing business,
Grass Valley Printers. Ken operated the business successfully for nearly 30 years and his sons still run the business to this day. After retiring from his own business Ken proudly worked as the janitor for a local church.
As a born again Christian he was always very proud to keep the Lord's house clean and in good order. In his later years Ken took up scuba diving and became a certified NAUI instructor, helping many locals share in the joy he found underneath the sea. Ken enjoyed playing music for most of his life, in his early years he played guitar with Kenny and the Impacts! He especially enjoyed leading worship for local churches with his family. After his retirement
he spent time playing guitar and standup bass with friends at local events and at many local nursing homes. Ken was a proud father to five children and grandfather to 11 grandchildren. He did very little in life without including his children; and his favorite activities frequently involved one or more of them. Ken is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janet. His daughter Wendy and his sons Jared (Sarah), Jesse (Katherine), Josh (Charlie), Jon (Brittany). Grandchildren: Nathan, Elizabeth, Lyla, Matthew, Madison, Jessie, Liberty, Pepper, Ryan, James and Josiah, as well as his dogs Maurine and Bessy. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Elizabeth White, and his sister Kathleen. The family invites all to a celebration of life at Abundant Life Community Church, March 26th at 1pm. Donations in his honor can be made to Word-A-Live church in Penn Valley.
