Obituary of Heather Peterman

Heather Peterman passed away on Nov. 23, 2016 at her residence. She was 40. A light on earth went out but a star in the sky became brighter.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
Heather was born in Silver Springs, Maryland. She lived in Herndon, Virginia until 1994 when she moved with her parents and brother to Grass Valley.
She became an AmeriCorps member at 18 and worked for Child Advocates of Nevada County as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). She left Child Advocates to attend Humboldt University where she earned her BS. She went onto earn her Masters in Marriage, Family Therapy from Phoenix University, graduating with honors. She was Executive Director of Spirit Center in Grass Valley and left there to form another non-profit, The Alliance for Well Being, that served those with mental illnesses.
Heather had been an excellent swimmer, skier and played softball. She was president of Delta Phi Epsilon at Humboldt. She had been a member of Toastmasters.
She was a positive, empathic individual who cared deeply for people. She was always willing to listen and encourage others.
Heather is survived by her two sons (10 and 11); brother Jarrett Peterman of Plumas Lake; sister Pauline Dawson of Chantilly, Virginia; parents, Gary and Joyce Peterman of Grass Valley; grandmothers, Helen Dougherty of Middletown, Pennsylvania and Jean Peterman of Oakland, Maryland and many loving aunts, uncle and cousins.
Arrangements are under the care of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
