Margie Lee Bentley Barton Sebrell passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Hospice Care Center in Grass Valley. She was 94.
The memorial service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, May 19, at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main St., Grass Valley, Calif.
Margie was born on Oct. 5, 1918, in Tecumseh, Okla. She attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. She worked for the Agriculture Adjustment Administration in Shawnee for three years before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1944. She worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Richmond and was the secretary to Ronald Williams, owner of Town and Country Village in Palo Alto, for 29 years.
After retiring, she moved to Grass Valley with her husband, Roy Sebrell, in 1989. She was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church of Grass Valley, where she participated in many activities. She was a docent at the Empire Mine in Grass Valley and volunteered at the Bjorn Mansion, portraying "Katie the Cook," well into her 80s.
She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews Gail and Mark Winans, Linda and David Abildgaard of San Jose and their families, Billy Canada and Peggy Wilhelm of Oklahoma and their families; step-daughter, Barbara Sebrell Jarvis of Grass Valley; the Sebrell and Jarvis families; and her many friends. The family would like to thank Quail Ridge Senior Living and Hospice of the Foothills for their excellent care of Margie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Sebrell; her brothers Ted Bentley and M.J. Bentley; her sister, Ida Canada; and her companion and friend for 12 years, Bill Ward.
She enjoyed traveling, music, investing, charitable work, and most of all, visiting her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Peace Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Foothills are welcome.
