Lucille Mattie Mitchell Fivelstad passed away Feb. 9, 2013, at Wolf Creek Care Center in Grass Valley, Calif. She was 89.
Memorial services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 235 S. Church St., Grass Valley.
Lucille was born to Edward Lee Mitchell and Ollie Dortch Mitchell Oct. 1, 1923, in Ft. Smith, Ark. The family came to California in 1940. She married Ralph Carsten Fivelstad in May 1943. They lived in Santa Monica, Calif., and Inglewood, Calif., moving to Carmichael, Calif., in 1972. Lucille has been in Grass Valley since May 2012. Lucille was a salesperson for Sears. She loved gardening and reading. Lucille had long-term friends Cathy Dunn and Shirley Thompson, with whom she traveled and laughed. Her niece and nephew, Sandy and Richard Borges, shared their grandchildren with Lucille.
She is survived by sisters Naomi Mitchell Borges (John) of Tracy, Calif., and Betty Jo Mitchell Burdick of Boise City, Okla.; son Rod Fivelstad (Susan Hoff) of Grass Valley; grandchildren Kathryn Fivelstad of Reno, Nev., and Peter Fivelstad and Amber Bittenbender Fivelstad, both of Long Beach, Calif.; nieces and nephews Forrest Wayne Duffy, Fred Duffy, Richard Borges, Ron Borges, Patricia Burdick Henning, Don Burdick, Dan Burdick, Michael Mitchell and Gaylene Mitchell; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill Mitchell; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Mitchell Duffy Brandt.
