June Fortner-Coy

June Delores Fortner Coy passed away peacefully at Crystal Ridge Care Facility where she had resided since February 2013. She was 87.

At her request, there will be no memorial services. A family memorial reunion is planned for a later date. Our thanks go to the caring employees at Crystal Ridge Care facility for the loving care they gave her while she was there with them.

She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Alameda, Calif., to Guy Alfred and Emma Dorothea Silverthorn.

In 1944 she married Donald Coy in Oakland, Calif. They lived in the Bay Area until moving to Grass Valley in 1973. After the passing of her first husband, she later met and married Abe Fortner.

June worked at the original Sprouse Reitz retail store, which was located near the Grass Valley Safeway, and then continued working for them when they moved over to Raley's shopping center.

In 1995 she retired to enjoy sewing, making crafts and sharing meals with family and friends. She enjoyed collecting T-shirts with witty sayings on the front and enjoyed the comments she got from friends and people she passed by in town.

June is survived by her daughter, Donna Bell of Oakland, Calif.; grandsons Chris Bell and Tom Coy; granddaughter, Lorrie Mazur; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Pascutti.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Coy; one brother and five sisters; second husband, Abe Fortner; and son, Michael Coy.

Arrangements are under the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
