Joni Marie Ostrom

Joni passed away Feb. 11, 2014.

Joni was born May 14, 1953, in Roseville, Calif. She attended Roseville High School, where she was a popular and active honor student. The scholarships she received upon graduation in 1971 helped her to earn her degree from Sierra College.

A celebration of Joni's life is being planned to take place sometime in the middle of May at an outdoor location in the greater Roseville Area. Details will follow.

She moved to Palo Alto where she started a family with her husband, Sig, and helped to provide for her family by doing clerical work for local businesses. Joni's career included positions in the private sector, but most of her work was devoted to administrative assistant positions in the school system. She worked briefly at Del Oro High School and continued her career in the Nevada Joint Union High School District until her retirement in 2008. Joni had also owned and operated an interior decorating business and started a mobile notary business, providing notary services until a week before she passed gently amongst family and friends.

Joni was graceful and gregarious — qualities that endeared her to all. She was a voracious reader, an exceptional cook, and she loved to travel. Her travels took her on journeys to many parts of the American continents, as well as to Indonesia and Europe. She especially enjoyed her annual trips with her three sisters. Joni was an artisan who devoted much of her energy to her favorite hobby, quilting. She studied her craft and meticulously created several beautiful quilts, which she generously gave to loved ones. Joni was proudly charitable and annually participated in Project Linus quilting events for the purpose of providing quilts for foster children.

Joni is survived by her father, Joe Jimenez; mother, Evelyn Garcia Medeiros; husband, Sig; daughters Allison (Coleman) Cassel and Caitlin (Noah) DeMaranville ; son, Isaac (Marisa); sisters Evelyn (Bill) Overman, Melinda (Frank)Fontenot and Lisa (Victor) Mojica; brothers Joe (Gia) Jimenez, Donald Kelley, Steven (Eli) Jimenez and John (Gretchen) Jimenez; grandchildren Conner and Cade Cassel, Anna, Cali, Autumn and Joseph Ostrom, and Charlotte and Kellen DeMaranville.

Joni will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Cancer Aid Thrift Store or Hospice of the Foothills in Grass Valley.
