After retiring from teaching, Rose became a history docent at the Oakland Museum, a position she held for 17 years.
In her personal life, Fern was married to George De Soto and had a daughter, Susan. Widowed in 1970, she then married Ovid Rose in 1972. Ovid had three children: Rod, Abby, and Victor.
Fern and Ovid spent 30 wonderful years together traveling, making new friends, and watching their family grow and thrive. Widowed again in 2002, Fern then moved to Auburn where she has been a resident of Siena Care. Fern's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Siena Care who became her extended family over the last 11 years.
