Elizabeth Schach, formerly of Nevada City, passed away Dec.29, 2012 in Kiln, Miss. She was 97.
Services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb 15, 2013 at Sierra Presbyterian Church, 175 Ridge Road, Nevada City, Calif.
Elizabeth was born July 1, 1915, in Hatchetville, Texas, to Marvin and Gladys (Chaney) Hatchett.
In 1934, she married John Elliott in Akron, Ohio, and moved to California in 1948 with her husband and daughters, where they settled in the Bay Area. She and John designed and built homes in the Los Altos and Mountain View area.
In 1976, she married Ken Schach and made her home in Modesto until moving to Nevada City in 1999 to live with her daughter, Vivian Wood-White. Elizabeth enjoyed gardening and travel. She made multiple trips crossing the country to visit family and friends.
She was an accomplished fiddle player and active church member who also ministered at several California prisons in the 1980s. She was a member of Sierra Presbyterian Church.
Following the death of her daughter, she moved to Mississippi in 2009. She was a very dedicated mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Thelma (Bob) Hughes of Kiln, Miss.; grandchildren, Brian Hess of San Jose, Jennifer Knight of Kiln, Steve (Arlette) Hess of San Mateo, Mike (Teri) Knight of South Carolina, Laura (Tom) Caruthers of Nevada City and Janice Watts and Marque Bell of Louisiana; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Vivian Wood-White.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.
