Dottie was born on July 1, 1920, to Walter and Jean Staeffler in Manitowoc, Wis. She attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and graduated in 1941 with high honors.
Her interests were in economics and financing.
Dottie joined the Navy and served at Muroc Air Force Base where, as a dispersing officer, she met her husband, Clifton H. Davis. They married in 1948 and had four children: Barbara Jane, Thomas Clifton, Richard John and Catharine Helen.
They raised their family in Redondo Beach, Calif. During this time, Dottie was active in the Riviera United Methodist Church, the Torrance Family YMCA and IEEE auxiliary.
