Dorothy Elizabeth Clarke died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, in Grass Valley, Calif. She was 93.
There will be a private celebration of her life among family members.
She was born Nov. 24, 1919. Her family emigrated from Cornwall, England. She was the sibling of A.P. and Barbara Gilbert and was the last surviving child. Her brothers were Donald, Charles and Bob Gilbert, and she had a sister, Wilma (Gilbert) Snell.
Her father and husband were both miners at the Empire Mine while it was in operation. She was an amazing source of knowledge and history about the past of the mines and railroads.
She was a loved mother, grandmother, wife, aunt, sister and friend. Her wisdom, warmth and love will be missed by all who shared in her life, including the wild birds and squirrels that called her trees and yard home.
Dorothy was a nurse's aide for more than 40 years and shared that compassion with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Clarke) Buck; son-in-law Kenneth Buck Sr.; grandchildren Pamela (Buck) Hayden, Kenneth Buck Jr., Karen (Damyanovitch) Demianew, Romulo Ruben Reyes; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Chester Clarke, and daughters Ramona (Clarke), Arnold and Janet (Clarke) Damyanovitch.
