Warrington Russell Willis Jr. “Russ” of Nevada City, Calif., passed away peacefully Jan. 6, 2014, surrounded by family members after a short illness, which he faced with great courage, dignity and humor.
Celebrations of his life will be in the near future in Nevada City and later this year in the Boston area.
Russ was born in Bethesda, Md., in 1944, the first-born child of the late Warrington R. Willis and the late Janet Spencer Willis.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen, of Nevada City, Calif.; his sister, Janet W. Jones, and her husband, James, of Winchester, Mass.; his brother, Richard S. Willis, of Willow Grove, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank the staff at the Hospice of the Foothills Compassionate Care Home for the kindness and compassion shown to Russ and his family.
Russ will be greatly missed by his loving wife Kathleen, his family, his neighborhood posse, the Revolutionary War Reenactment community, friends at the ol’ Republic Brewery and in the Stow, Mass., area as well as many others. He is perhaps best described by a friend who said that Russ exemplified “the essence of happiness.” Russ lived life on his own terms while helping to improve the lives of others.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care Home, Hospice of the Foothills, Grass Valley, CA 95945, or Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release in Grass Valley, CA 94945.
