Magdalene Dahlia Visniewski was born July 13, 1923, in Lowell, Mass., to Antonios and Vaseleke Karafelis. She passed away peacefully at her place of residence on Sept. 6, 2013.
Magdalene was born one of seven children, four of whom are still living. She lived a strong life of 90 years.
She graduated nursing school in 1941 from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lowell, Mass. She joined the Army in April 1945 during World War II, where she performed as a general duty nurse and supervisor on the ear, nose and throat, medical, surgical and orthopedic wards. She served as a nurse on the ship The Republic and was a 2nd Lieutenant until August 1946.
She became a Director of Nurses and retired as such.
She had two children, Tony and Evelyn. Evelyn, deceased, had two children, Valerie and David. Valerie married Andy and they raised four children: Amber, Aaron, Travis and Jacob.
Aaron married Tiffany and had twin girls, Makenzie and McKayla. Magdalene’s son, Tony had two children, Angela and Jason. She also had two stepchildren, Scott who had two children, Patrick and Michael; and Nancy, who had two children, Francine and Grant.
Magdalene was a proud and strong woman and she will be missed.
A private service will be held at the family home in Grass Valley.
Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
