Dorothy Blanche “Snyder” Hamre went home to the Lord with her family by her side Sept. 8, 2013. She was 82.
A celebration of life will be at a later date open to all who knew her.
Dorothy was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Leaksville, Miss., to Peter Ralph Albert Snyder and Blanche Idella “Moyer” Snyder.
She travelled with her folks while getting her education to Florida, Central California and Oregon, while her father found work with the Southern Pacific Railroad. She met her sweetheart of 50 years, Harold Standley Hamre, and married Sept. 8, 1949, in Salinas, Calif. She was 19 years old.
They moved to Oregon, San Francisco and Grass Valley, Calif., while raising a family of three daughters, Linda Lou DeLong, Virginia Blanche Skelton-Hall and Katherine Marie Palmer. They finally settled in Grass Valley in 1971 after moving in and out of the area for 20 years.
She was a quiet lady with a big heart. She loved her family, gardening, bird collection, homemaking and travelling. She was a member of the Widows Association, Eastern Star and a life member of DAV Aux L.H. Benson Unit 122 of Grass Valley.
She leaves behind her daughters, Linda (Bruce), Virginia and Kathy; six granddaughters; two grandsons; 15 grea- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; two sisters-in law; and one brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1999; her grandson, William H. Ramsey, in 1987; two sisters; three brothers; and her parents.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Foothills for all its help, concern and care for our mother during this time. Thank you to her niece, Yvonne Lee (who rarely left her side), for her care, love and support.
We will miss you mom!
