Michael Coy

Michael Coy passed away peacefully on July 17, 2013, with his wife, Joy, and his hospice nurse, Maria, at his side.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley. Visitation will start at 12:30 p.m., and the graveside service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.

Michael was born in Sebastopol, Calif., on June 2, 1946, and grew up in the Concord and Alameda area of California. On July 19, 1963, Michael joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to serve in Ludendorff Kaserne, Kornwestheim, Germany. Michael lived in Germany for eight years and then returned to live in Grass Valley.

Michael will be remembered by family and friends for his ability to tell of his adventures as a kid and growing up, making listeners laugh at the incredible and almost unbelievable things he encountered and the experiences he had. The grandchildren would ask over and over again to hear his stories. Michael loved to read and listen to things about history, science and the study of the planets and the universe.

Michael was a very gifted handyman and could fix just about anything that needed to be fixed. He ran and maintained his own Michael’s Maintenance Service here in Nevada County for 16 years and was known to many as someone they could depend on to do small carpentry jobs, fix electrical and plumbing problems, painting and many other things.

Michael was a faithful member of Truth Tabernacle Church in Marysville. He loved to sing and will be remembered especially for his testimony song, “God’s Hand Reached Further Down Then I Could Reach Up.”

Michael is survived by his wife, Joy; their combined family of children Tom (Lori), Lorrie (Billy), Tiffany (Jim), Tammy (Kenneth); grandchildren Sarah, Mercedes, Kyle, Krislyn, Alexis, Katrina and Kenneth, Jr.; his mother, June Fortner; his sister, Donna (John) Bell; and nephew, Chris Bell.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Coy.

Michael will be missed by his family and friends. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.

Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
