He was born on July 25, 1921, in Bakersfield, Calif. Dick joined the Army in 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served four years defending his country throughout the Japanese corridor. After the war, he went to work for Darigold in the Los Angeles area and was promoted to Northern California, where he settled in San Jose with his wife and five children.

He retired from Darigold in 1986 after 30 years of service. His passion was spending time with his family and golf (he created a family golf tournament legacy now in its 46th year), and he loved his USC Trojans.

Dick is survived by seven grandchildren; four great-children; and sisters Marion Tyrell, Barbara Ward and Dorothy Nicolls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Hospice of the Foothills, 11270 Rough and Ready Hwy., Grass Valley, Calif. 95945.
