Bruins top Placer in PVL battle

The Bear River baseball team won their second straight Pioneer Valley League game this week, taking down rival Placer, 5-4, to pull even with the Hillmen for third place in league play.

The Bruins (9-13, 4-6 PVL) were led by a stellar performance on the mound from Andrew Reiss.

The senior pitcher threw six innings and allowed only two earned runs.

Travis Anderson relieved Reiss in the seventh, throwing a perfect 1-2-3 inning to close the game.

From the plate, Jake Sypnicki went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Michael Raigoza added a pair of hits, David Chorjel ripped a double and had an RBI, and Dallon Crilly tallied a hit and an RBI in the win.

The victory comes two days after the Bruins thumped Foothill 12-6, and four days after former head coach Dahorl Enis along with three assistant coaches stepped down from the team.

Interim head coach Moe Barrios is now 2-0 as the head of the Bruin program.

The Bruins have a critical rematch with Placer Wednesday as league play nears its end and playoffs loom.

Softball

JV: Woodcreek 11,

Nevada Union 0 F/5 innings

The Lady Miners were no match for a Woodcreek Friday falling by 11 to the Lady Timberwolves, who only one loss this season.

For Nevada Union Gracie Ramos, Hannah Adams and Eden Baker accounted for their three hits on the day.

The loss drops NU to 4-11 overall and 0-9 in the tough Sierra Foothill League. The Lady Miners are back at it Wednesdya against Rocklin.
