Sole Sisters shoe store, property open in downtown Grass Valley

After two years of construction, the building at 168 E. Main St. is complete and provides space for businesses to rent.

One of the new businesses to occupy an office there is Sole Sisters shoe store.

“It’s a brand new store with a variety of men’s, women’s and children’s shoes with several different brands,” said Jeannette Little, who owns the store with her mother, Jeannie Lawrence. “It’s been really difficult to get shoes out here, so we thought it would be a great idea.”

The store will have a grand opening Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., which will include cake, cookies, balloons, sales and a deal where customers can take 10 percent off every $40 spent.

Parking is located just past the store in a driveway with about 10 parking spots, Little said.

“I’m really excited. There’s been a really good response,” Little said. “We’ve been open since Friday, and it’s been amazing.”

The store will provide an affordable option to buy shoes and deter customers from shopping down the hill, Little said.

“The kind of thing I’m pushing for is to be able to find an affordable cute pair of shoes,” Little said. “I don’t want to have to drive an hour.”

The Sole Sisters location at 168 E. Main St. is under the same ownership as the multi-office building next door at 170 E. Main St., both of which are leased through Collins Property Management.

The spaces range from 137 to 471 square feet and range in price from $303 to $1,030 per month, according to Lauren Garrison, leasing agent.

“The building is finally done, now the second floor is also available for rent,” Garrison said. “The owner really took her time to get the best historical architectural features and things like that in the building, which is why it took so long.”

The building is also in a prime location downtown, she said.

“It’s right there,” Garrison said. “It’s really the gateway to Grass Valley.”
