Richard Reuter Jr.

Richard (Dick) Theodore Reuter Jr. of Penn Valley, Calif., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, following a brief illness. He was 89.

A memorial service will take place at Western Gateway Park Saturday, April 6, 2013.

Mr. Reuter was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Austin, Texas, to Richard and Annie Reuter. The oldest of four children, he spent his childhood enjoying the early morning aroma of his family’s bakery from the apartment above. He served as Radarman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Black during World War II. After the war, he moved to California where he met and married Virginia (Ginger) Marie Hart. Under the G.I. Bill, he completed his education at Pepperdine College and began his career as a certified public accountant and later as a traffic manager for the Pennzoil Company in Los Angeles. He retired after 35 years in 1985 and moved with Ginger to Penn Valley, where he enjoyed senior softball, traveling, attending Navy reunions and baking and delivering cookies to his many friends and family members. In recent years, he has provided loving care to Ginger. Dick will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor and amazing energy.

Dick is survived by Ginger, his wife of 62 years; his children, Craig (Janelle) Reuter of Rough and Ready and Linda (Marcus) Madden of Penn Valley; grandchildren Corey, Renee, Andrea, Kerry and Tyler; and great-grandchildren Jake, Moose, Jacob, Jordan, Chloe and Owen.
