Carter Bradley Dennis passed away peacefully in his home in Grass Valley, Calif., Feb. 14, 2013, at 6:15 pm. He was 88.
Services will take place at 2 p.m. today, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City, Calif.
Cart was born as an only child to a prominent Spokane family Aug. 10, 1924, in Spokane, Wash. As it was, Cart just so happened to be born in Spokane because his dad, Howard, was taking care of the estate of his late father, Graham Dennis.
Howard and Cart’s mom, Reita Carter, who was of an old Grass Valley family, were living in Grass Valley at the time of Graham’s death. After the estate had been settled, Howard and Reita eventually made their way back to Grass Valley, where Cart enjoyed his junior high and high school years.
Cart had such fond memories of this time and made many lifelong friends. He served proudly in the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, on June 16, 1946, he married the love of his life, Ann (Buck) Dennis, and remained married to her for the next 56 years until she passed away Jan. 3, 2003.
Ann helped Cart graduate from UCLA. Cart then worked in the aerospace industry for the next 41 years as a sales manager of data recording and reproducing instruments. He truly enjoyed his work.
During this time, Cart developed many close friendships both while at work and at home. He then retired from the aerospace industry in 1991 and began working as a real estate agent with Ann. He and Ann then traveled the world, immensely enjoying their lives together.
In 1998, Cart and Ann moved to Grass Valley, where they met a whole new set of wonderful friends for whom they were deeply grateful.
Cart is survived by his three loving children, Debbie Hlavac, Gregory Dennis and Christopher Dennis; and six grandchildren.
