Mardel Wasley passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Grass Valley, Calif. She was 95.
Funeral services for Hazel “Mardel” Wasley will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City, Calif. Pastor Andy Owens will be officiating. A private burial will take place at New Elm Ridge Cemetery in Grass Valley.
Mardel was born June 27, 1917, in Nevada City to Darrel and Hazel (Polglase) Kitts. She graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1935 and went on to graduate from hairdresser and cosmetician dchool in 1937. She was a beauty operator for more than 50 years.
On May 30, 1941, she married Lorrin Wasley in Reno, Nev. She was a past Noble Grand of Esther Rebekah’s Lodge, Grass Valley, and a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West, Manzanita Parlor No. 9, Grass Valley. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and family gatherings.
Mardel is survived by her daughter, Loree Toller of Grass Valley; granddaughter Sheree Toller (Jess Gallagher) of Auburn; granddaughter Kaylee Toller (Doug Runkle) of Penn Valley; sister Marie Plumtree of Redding; sister Marian Santaga of Sacramento; sister-in-law Lillian Valceschini of Grass Valley; sister-in-law Fleda Wasley of Grass Valley; sister-in-law Fusako Wasley of Nevada City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son Lorrin Wasley; and son-in-law Sherm Toller.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
