Dr. Audree Hay

Dr. Audree Hay passed away Jan. 26, 2013. She was 83.

Audree was born June 9, 1929, in Long Beach, Calif., to Robert Homer Lewis and Evelyn Marie Hilpert. She made her home in Nevada City, Calif., with the love of her life, Dr. David R. Hay, and after his death, with her son, Kent D. Vernon, and his family. Audree had her children before she finished high school yet kept pursuing education until she was a registered nurse practitioner, college professor and doctor of naturopathy. She attended Jordan High School, Long Beach, Long Beach City College, California State University, Los Angeles, and taught at California State University, Fullerton. While she was academically and professionally accomplished, she always said all she ever wanted was to be a mother. She served as a role model for independence, hard work and patient advocacy.

She is survived by her brother, John C. Lewis (Vicki). Her humor and steely persistence will be missed by her children, Gerald “Jerry” Frank Vernon (Deborah Morgan), Gayle Vernon Simkin (Marvin) and Dr. Kent Douglas Vernon (Tina Gulizia); her grandchildren, Jennifer Vernon Soratpour (Hooman), Jason Cortes (Sarah), Erin Leigh Stevens, Daniel Moore (Lisa), Douglas Michael Vernon and Brendon and Keri Ann Knecht; and her great-grandchildren, Brody Soratpour, Chloe Leigh Landos and Deegan and Talon Moore, were always in her heart.

Audree is predeceased by her husband, parents and brother, Robert H. Lewis Jr.
