Raymond Bruns

Raymond (Ray) W. Bruns passed away on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, 2012, in Roseville, Calif. He was 91.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main St., Grass Valley, Calif., with a reception to follow. All are welcome.

Ray was born in Hebron, Neb., on July 25, 1921, and moved to California as a young man during the war. He later married his wife of 62 years, Wilma, and in 1990 they retired to Grass Valley from the Bay Area. They both loved living in Grass Valley and became active members in Peace Lutheran Church and volunteered for several years at the Interfaith Food Ministry. He also was a member of SIRS.

Ray’s passing on Thanksgiving was especially meaningful because he really was very thankful for the love and friendship he had with his family members, friends and neighbors. His greatest joys came from spending time with family and friends. Ray’s motto in life was simple; “If you’re nice to people, they’ll be nice to you.” This worked for him; everywhere he went he had a smile and hello for people and they returned his warmth.

He is survived by daughter, Sandra (Edward) Martinez; son, Craig (Thelma) Bruns and three grandsons, Kevin, Stephen and Christopher whom he treasured; sisters, Lorene (Paul) Buntemeyer, Lenora Frank and Thelma Liebe and sister in-law, Leona Bruns. He is also survived by in-laws, Barbara and Chuck Becker, Lois and Lloyd Loetterie and Jean and Marvin Becker all in Grass Valley, and many nieces and nephews.

In the last few years, he developed special friendships with Bob Butterfield and all the Raley’s Coffee Klatch friends; neighbors, Heather and Tim Peterson, Sharon, and Derek Poppell and Pio Mangotti. Their kindness and caring meant the world to Ray. Thank you.

Ray is preceded in death by his wife Wilma in 2007.

In lieu of flowers, Ray may be remembered by a donation to Peace Lutheran’s Mission Endowment Fund.
