Indecent exposure call leads to melee with Grass Valley cops

Grass Valley Police officers responding to an indecent exposure call ended up fighting with the suspect, who allegedly continued to resist arrest even after being hit with a Taser. The man eventually was subdued with the help of pepper spray, said Sgt. Clint Bates.

A caller from the 100 block of West McKnight Way reported at 5:21 p.m. Friday that a man with his pants around his ankles was “fondling himself,” according to dispatch reports.

An officer responded and tried to detain the man, identified as David Cody Forkner, 24.

Forkner resisted the officer’s attempts to cuff him, and the incident quickly involved a second officer, Bates said.

Forkner allegedly bit one of the officers and grabbed and struck the other officer; he also allegedly tried to grab a Taser off the belt of one of the officers. Despite the fact that his pants were still down, Forkner tried to flee the scene, Bates said.

“One of the officers conducted a ‘drive stun,’ which is direct contact by the Taser with the skin, with no projectiles,” Bates said. “It had no effect.”

Forkner allegedly continued to fight the officers, until one officer pepper-sprayed him in the eyes. Officers then were able to control him enough to cuff him, Bates said, adding that a citizen assisted by holding down Forkner’s legs.

A search of Forkner allegedly uncovered methamphetamine and a meth pipe.

He was booked into county jail on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possessing controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer and was being held in lieu of $13,750 bail.
