Cynthia Elizabeth Peterlin lost her life with her daughter Sophie in a boating crash on Lake Englebright on September 15, 2012. She was 42. She was born October 9, 1969 in New York City to parents Michael and Ina Korek (deceased). She graduated Los Altos High School in 1997 and graduated from U.C. Davis in June 1991. Cynthia married Paul Peterlin September 20, 1992 at Crocker Mansion in Atherton, CA.
Cynthia’s self description was a “super” mom and wife. She was also an avid horse trail rider, baker, reader, 5k runner, gardener and friend. She was always involved in her children’s school and community activities. She loved her family very much. Cynthia was a Penn Valley/Rough & Ready 4H Leader, a member of the Penn Valley Community Rodeo Association, the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, U.C. Davis Chapter and the U.C. Davis Alumni Association.
Cynthia is survived by her husband Paul Peterlin of Penn Valley, CA; sons Brock, 18 of University of San Diego, San Diego, CA, and Alek, 15, of Penn Valley, CA, currently attending Ghidotti Early College Prep Program in Grass Valley; father Michael Korek of Los Altos, CA; brother Brian Korek of San Jose, CA; in-laws Stan & Carol Peterlin of Dunsmuir, CA; and brother in-law and sister in-law Marcus and Jayne Peterlin of San Ramon, CA, an uncle, cousins and special friends.
Sophie Danielle Peterlin died with her mother, Cynthia, in a boating crash on Lake Englebright on September 15, 2012. She was 12 years old. Sophie was born November 15, 1999 in Mountain View, CA to parents Paul and Cynthia Peterlin. She attended Mt. Saint Mary’s Academy in Grass Valley, CA. She was in the 8th grade. Sophie enjoyed horse riding, school sports, singing, ballet, basketball, cross country and Choraleers.
She was a member of the Penn Valley/Rough & Ready 4H club and Girl Scout Troop 269.
Sophie is survived by father Paul Peterlin; brothers Brock, 18, and Alek, 15; grandparents Stan and Carol Peterlin, of Dunsmuir, CA; grandfather Michael Korek of Los Altos, CA; aunt & uncle Marcus and Jayne Peterlin of San Ramon, CA, and uncle Brian Korek of San Jose, CA.
She is also survived by many, many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday October 6, 2012 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 17645 Penn Valley Drive, Penn Valley, CA.
