Major injury accident closes Highway 49

A major injury accident that happened at about 4:45 p.m. has closed Highway 49 at Cramer Road.

The accident was reported involving a head-on collision of a truck with a trailer and a sedan, according to the California Highway Patrol website.

The accident was blocking both lanes with at least one person trapped.

The highway was closed in both directions at 5 p.m. for two helicopters to land, with no estimated time of clearing.

Traffic was backed up almost to Dry Creek, according to the CHP. At 5:37 p.m., one southbound lane was opened at Cramer Road.

At 6:11 p.m., northbound lanes both were still closed, northbound traffic was moving slowly in the center divide. Both southbound lanes were open.
