Obituary of Judson Emery

Judson “Jud” Emery, Jr. of Grass Valley passed away on Monday July 14, 2013 in Grass Valley. He was 55.

His celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. July 27 at Utah’s Place Community Shelter located at 1262 Sutton Way in Grass Valley. Service will be outside so please wear weather appropriate clothing.

Jud was born Jan. 20, 1959 in Santa Monica, Calif. to Judson and Patricia Emery. He graduated from San Jose High School and later received his contractor’s license for flooring.

He married the love of his life, Tana Castillo Emery of Grass Valley on Oct. 16, 1996. She was by his side throughout his illness and next to him when he left us.

He was the typical older brother and enjoyed playing pranks on his younger siblings. He was also the protector, comforter and keeper of family traditions. He loved his children with his whole heart; they filled his life with love and many happy memories. He enjoyed spending time with family, barbeques and all outdoor activities. His passion was working with special needs children and coaching for the challenger league. He had a deep love and affection for these children and was known to them as “Coach Jud”.

Jud is survived by his younger siblings; Cindy Maple, Jill Emery, Kim Stephens, Marjan Kelsey, Jaime Cain and Josh Paul; his four beautiful children, Christy Garrett, Victoria Emery, Judson Emery, and Trevor Emery; granddaughter, Cassia Garrett, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts/uncles, friends and his dog Boomer.

Jud was preceded in death by his parents, Judson Emery and Patricia Sherrell.

Jud cared most deeply about the wellbeing of his family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a Special Needs Trust Fund set up for his son, Trevor Emery, at Bank of the West.

Jud was a true hero and touched many lives. He will be missed.
