Claire Dolores Hayes passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Hospice of the Foothills in Grass Valley. She was 83.
A service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, at Greenwood Memorial Garden Cemetery on Rough and Ready Highway in Grass Valley.
Claire was born on Sept. 23, 1930, in San Francisco to Gus and Aileen Grieder. She graduated from St. Vincent High and Commercial in 1948. She married Wesley N. Hayes in 1963, combining her three children with his three.
She collected Hummel figurines, American Indian pottery and Beanie Babies. She was a proud housewife who loved caring for her husband and children. She spent many hours playing solitaire and hand-held gaming devices and loved the occasional trip to Reno casinos, where she always won.
Claire had excellent money management skills to the extent that her husband was able to retire earlier than expected.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Hayes; sons David and Fred (Debra) Craddock and Michael (Christine) Hayes; daughters Nancy Bridges, Mallory (Scot) Hayes and Susan West; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Claire was preceded in death by her daughter, Edith Aileen Craddock; and parents, Gus and Aileen Grieder.
