Thomas Paul Preston passed on April 23, 2014, of his injuries from a tragic accident. He was 85.
According to his wishes, Paul will be buried at a later date with his family in attendance at the Elster Memorial Cemetery.
Paul was born on March 29, 1929, in San Jose, Calif. to Thomas E. and Ethel W. (Switzer) Applegate. Upon his father’s death, his mother married Louis Preston, and he took his last name. He moved to Grass Valley, Calif., at a young age and graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Army and then returned to Grass Valley to raise his family. Paul worked for Bank of America for 40 years, and after that for his longtime friend, Lowell Robinson. In 1967 he was fire chief for the Grass Valley Fire Department, for which he served as a volunteer for many years.
He loved to travel, pulling his trailer around the western states. He was on his way to Utah to visit several of the National Parks.
He is survived by his sister, Lois Brown of Reno; children Thomas Preston of Citrus Heights, Juanice (Gary) Plunkett and Valerie (Jon) Landon, all of Grass Valley; grandchildren Brian and Andrea Preston, Brandon and Blair Plunkett, Shauna Sanders, Cameron Landon, Cori Landon, Jacy Davis and Chandler Landon; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
