Obituary of Vida White

Vida White

Vida B. White passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 28, 2014.

She was 93.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 5, at Bethel Church, 13010 State Hwy. 49 at Christian Life Way in Grass Valley, Calif.

She was born in Beulah, N.D., to David and Clara Zeissler on Sept. 17, 1920.

The family moved to California when she was 2 years old.

As a child, she took piano lessons and at the age of 12, was playing the piano at Glad Tidings Church in Lodi, Calif.

While in high school, she played a flute in the marching band. She really enjoyed playing at football games and in parades.

She graduated from Tokay High School in Lodi in 1938.

After graduation, she worked at Walgreen’s Drug Store. She married Woody White in 1939 and moved to San Jose, Calif. She took organ lessons from Lucille Thurmond after getting married.

In 1954, she and her family moved to Grass Valley. Vida played the piano and organ at Bethel Church in Grass Valley for many years, where she was a member.

Her favorite song to play was the “Wedding March.”

She played the organ for many weddings and funerals. She also prepared meals for people of the congregation when needed.

She was an avid gardener and always canned lots of fruits and vegetables. She taught many young women how to can and preserve food.

Whenever they had a potluck at church, everyone always wanted to have some of her pies that she baked. For family times together, she was always asked to bring her pies. Everyone had their favorite.

She also enjoyed sewing. She won Best of Show at the Nevada County Fair for baked goods, canning and vegetables.

She leaves behind her husband of 74 years, Woody White; son Walter (Jeanette) White; daughter Marilyn (David) Chance; five grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tanya Glass, in 2003; father and mother; and sister Blondina.
