Patricia Mae Hughes died February 23, 2014, at home in Grass Valley, Calif. She was 78.
A service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 13459 Hollow Way in Nevada City. A celebration of her life will follow at the reception hall on Hooper & Weaver grounds.
Patricia Pate was born Sept. 7, 1935, to Elmer and Georga Pate in Clebit, Okla. She went to high school in Portola, Calif.
Patricia married Gene Charles Hughes on Feb. 25, 1952. She was a mother, best friend, grandmother and a sister.
Patricia started work in 1965 in the Dollar Store in Grass Valley and went on to work in the family owned business, Hughes Inn and Diner in Grass Valley. She also worked at Tahoe Truckee Forest Hospital as a nurse aid and Jones Hospital and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in OBGYN. She worked for Valley Vaneer Sawmill and Germany’s Garden. She started a trucking company, PH Trucking, and worked at SPD in Nevada City as a deli clerk, and up to her passing, she worked as office manager at Sauder Mini Storage in Grass Valley.
She loved to sew, bake, work in her garden and fish.
She is survived by her son, Ron (Pam) Hughes of Nevada City; daughters Karrol (Ted) Pratt of Grass Valley, Shelly (Bob) Sauder of Grass Valley, Sheilla (Joe) Ramus of Penn Valley and Beverly (Ron) Sample of Grass Valley; sister and brother-in-law, MaryJo and Dick Lund of Sonora; grandchildren Donald, Preston and Angela Hughes, Shon and Kathleen Pratt, Leslie and Wesley Adams, Stephanie and Charles Williams, Ashley Edwards, Amanda Sample and Zachary Sample; 24 great-grandchildren; precious dogs Pixie and Pirate; and several nieces and nephews.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Charles Hughes; parents, Elmer and Georga Pate; brother, James Dwight Pate; and granddaughter, Nicole Lynn Hughes.
