Norma Roberts

Norma G. Roberts died Nov. 8, 2007, at her home in Cedar Ridge. She was 83.

Services will be private. A public memorial service will take place at a later date, and those who are interested in the memorial can send their name and address to: Roberts, P.O. Box 62, Cedar Ridge, 95924.

Mrs. Roberts was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Lubbock, Texas, to Felix L. and Willie-Mae (Lollar) Fred. She was raised on a farm with her five brothers and two sisters. Her father was a cattle rancher and also farmed cotton and other agricultural crops. At an early age, she helped her brothers tend to the fields, picking and hoeing cotton. Her mother taught her to cook and sew, and they would make clothes for the family.

Mrs. Roberts graduated from Petit High School in 1942 and worked for a corner drug store while attending college at Texas Tech. She met Arthur W. Roberts, a recent graduate from the Army Air Corp. pilot school in Lubbock, Texas, and married him after a courtship of 26 days on Oct. 1, 1943.

Mrs. Roberts later became a board-certified beautician and taught full time at a beauty college. She and her family moved to Cedar Ridge in 1976. She opened Norma’s Hair Affair in Cedar Ridge in 1979 and enjoyed a successful business for 23 years before retiring. She also enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Roberts will be remembered as being kind and giving and was well-liked by many in the community. She was a devoted wife of 64 years and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Arthur W. Roberts of Cedar Ridge; son, Stephen W. Roberts of Nevada City; son, Arthur W. Roberts Jr. of Oceanside; daughter, Lynne M. Craft of Rocklin; brothers Darryl, Malcom and Royce Fred, both of Texas; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon E. Roberts.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, Nevada City.
