Girl Scouts throughout Nevada County will be selling cookies at booths outside of local storefronts between Feb. 21 and March 16. From its earliest beginnings in 1917, cookie earnings have helped Girl Scouts pay for leadership activities, community projects and field trips each year. In addition, Girl Scouts fund important community projects at the local level. Through cookie sales, the girls learn skills such as goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. According to a survey from the Girl Scout Research Institute, 85 percent of Girl Scout “cookie entrepreneurs” learn money management through developing budgets, taking cookie orders and handling customers’ money.
Nevada County Girl Scouts are partners with the American Red Cross for “Project Thank You.” The cookies are distributed by the American Red Cross to local service men and women, veterans’ hospitals and food banks. At booth sales, customers just need to tell the girls that they are purchasing cookies for “Project Thank You,” and the Scouts will put them aside.
Cookies are $4 per package. To place an order from a local Girl Scout, call 866-GSC-OOKS or visit girlscoutshcc.org.
