Officials to discuss key Nevada County issues

What are the key issues facing law enforcement, education, government and social services in western Nevada County? Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal and Chief Probation Officer Mike Ertola will be the first speakers in a series of free public forums addressing this topic, hosted by the Contemporary Issues Study Group. The session starts at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main St., Grass Valley (near downtown). Coffee and baked goods are served at 9 a.m.

All six sessions of “Issues Facing Our Local Public Agencies” are free and open to the public. The study group invites listeners to consider what members of the faith community can do to help address those issues, said organizer David Baker.

Other speakers will include John Baggett, principal of Scotten School and educational program director for the Grass Valley School District, on Jan. 29; Grass Valley Mayor Dan Miller on Feb. 5; Nevada County Executive Rick Haffey on Feb. 13; and Nicole Pollack, director of the Nevada County Department of Social Services, on Feb. 19.

Sessions begin at 9:15 a.m. Wednesdays and include a question-and-answer session until 10:45 a.m. The program continues through Feb. 26.

The Contemporary Issues Study Group is a community service offered by Peace Lutheran Church. For more information, visit or call 530-432-8935.
