Tahoe National Forest issuing 200 Christmas tree cutting permits

The Tahoe National Forest Yuba River Ranger District is now selling 200 Christmas tree-cutting permits through Dec. 24 or until permits are sold out at two locations, one in Downieville and one in Sierra City.

The non-refundable permits are $10 each, with a limit of two per family, and are valid up to and including Dec. 24. Permits must be purchased in person using either cash or a check. Cutting is allowed in designated areas only. Permit purchasers will receive maps to designated cutting areas along with other information about choosing a tree. Certain cutting areas may be inaccessible after snowfall, so it is advisable to cut trees early in the season.

Come up to Sierra County and experience a fun-filled day of cutting your own holiday tree and viewing the beautiful scenery along Hwy. 49. Permits may be purchased at Sierra Hardware, 305 Main Street, Downieville (530-289-3582) or Sierra Country Store, 213 Main Street, Sierra City (530-862-1560).
