Play It Forward offers fun for a good cause

The Play It Forward program, a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters invites community members Nov. 16 to an afternoon of games and goodwill. Play It Forward connects the community and nonprofit organizations to help raise donations while hosting a fun-filled Saturday for families and friends.

In the past, Play It Forward has sponsored the Food Bank, KARE Crisis Nursery, Spirit Center, Friendship Club and others. The event is open to all ages and offers a unique opportunity to play with more than 35 board games and 60 iPad games.

Participants enjoy games such as Chutes & Ladders, Cribbage, Apples to Apples or challenge a new friend to Scrabble or Battleship or learn how to play something new. Every 15 minutes, a name is drawn from the prize jar. Prizes include gift certificates from local businesses: Lazy Dog Ice Cream, Bookseller, Paulette’s, Miner Moe’s Pizza and more! The event will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Gene Arbaugh Community Room in the Nevada City Library. The goal is to help 25 local children fulfill their Christmas wish lists. Donations needed: $25 gift cards from Kmart, J.C. Penney or Big 5. The children use these gift cards to purchase new shoes, new clothes and toys. Cash donations are also appreciated. Please bring donations to the event. Those who cannot attend but are still interested in helping Big Brothers Big Sisters make a Christmas wish come true can still donate. Contact Tracey at 530-470-2695 for information.
