Ponderosa Pines Mobile Home Community has long been a supporter of Nevada County’s children through their donations and fundraising efforts in support of Child Advocates of Nevada County. Support from Ponderosa Pines residents over the years has included craft sales, yard sales, and cash donations. These efforts help single moms and families in need of support in the Foothills and Truckee Healthy Babies and Welcome Baby programs and children in the foster care and Dependency Court systems served by the CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, program. Children in Nevada County schools and daycare facilities are taught how to keep themselves safe from abuse through the Child Safety Puppeteers program.
A recent yard sale at the home of Joan and Ben Williams netted $700 to help support these much needed programs. Many items to sell were donated by the residents with several residents making cash donations to supplement the earnings. Mrs. Manilla Fickel, at the young age of 95, has been making quilts for new babies and families served by Child Advocates programs for many years. Mrs. Fickel purchases the fabric and supplies and donates the quilts which are used by families and new mothers in need.
